CCOF is a nonprofit organization that has been instrumental in advocating for federal organic legislation; their organic certification standards were foundational for the USDA National Organic Program, helping make “certified organic” a federally regulated claim. After three decades of fighting for organic integrity, CCOF continues to certify, educate, advocate, and promote organic.

Established by Congress, this federal regulatory program develops and enforces consistent national standards for organically produced agricultural products sold in the United States. Operating as a public-private partnership, the USDA’s National Organic Program (NOP) accredits third-party organizations to certify that producers meet national organic standards.
